Concrete scanning on a suspended slab
We recently scanned a suspended slab to locate post tension cables and rebar. The contractor wanted to know the location of these hazards to install a metal plate to weld wall supports for a block wall. Our analyst scanned 10 2ft by 2ft areas using the GSSI HR Mini to locate the hazards in the slab. After the scan, the analyst provided all the information needed to complete the project in a safe and timely manner.
Locate post tension cables before coring holes
We scanned multiple locations on a suspended slab for a construction company. The contractor wanted us to locate rebar and post tension cables before coring holes after sleeves were missed during pre-construction. Our analyst scanned four 3ft by 3ft areas with the GSSI HR Mini. She located multiple hazards that were exactly where the core was intended to be drilled. By scanning first, the client missed hitting hazards and jeopardizing project budgets.
Ground penetrating radar used to minimize hazards before drilling
A Penhall Technologies’ analyst was recently called out to a residence in Hutto, Texas, where some immediate scanning was needed. Previously, this particular residence had a gun safe company present at their home to install a new gun safe. When the company arrived, they had notified the residence that they would be drilling into the garage concrete slab to anchor it in place. They asked if they knew the slab contained post tension cables, and if they had scanned the area. Unprepared, they had to find a private utility locator quickly. Making the installers wait presented a financial cost for the client. The analyst was able to arrive within the hour. The customers were completely satisfied with the analyst. He ensured that the pattern of holes would not interfere with any observed and/or marked hazards.
