Champaign Utility Locating Projects that Penhall Worked On
Locate all underground utilities including water, storm drain, and sewer lines
An architectural and engineering company contacted Penhall Technologies. They wanted a private utility locator to come to their site in Champaign, IL. They needed all the utilities marked in a large field. This included water, storm drain, sanitary, gas and electrical lines. Once on site, our analyst used the Radio Detection 7100 (RD7100) to locate all of the utilities. This equipment detects electromagnetic fields in order to locate underground utilities. It can also be used on concrete and sub-surface. After scanning, the analyst marked all the utilities in the appropriate color and turned in a report of the findings to the client. The data from this utility survey was included in the ALTA survey.
Ground penetrating radar plus RD technology used for utility locating
A manufacturing plant in Mapleton, IL hired Penhall Technologies for our underground utility locating services. The client asked the analysts to perform scanning along the perimeter of the plant to locate any possible underground utilities. Our analyst used a combination of two utility locating equipment. The analyst first used the GSSI 400MHz antenna. This is also referred as a utility locating cart (see picture). This piece of equipment is great for locating underground utilities, voids, and underground storage tanks. As your private utility locator, Penhall Technologies’ analysts are always equipped with the GSSI 400MHz antenna, as well as the Radio Detection 7100 (RD7100). Both are used to locate utility lines. While the 400MHz uses ground penetrating radar, or GPR, the RD7100 uses electromagnetic fields. Our analysts always try to provide the best service possible, and this is why we offered our client the option to use both. A benefit of hiring Penhall Technologies as your private utility locator is that we can use any or both pieces of equipment at any time depending of your project.
