San Diego Concrete Scanning Projects that Penhall Worked On

Penhall helps to locate post tension cables so contractor could safely drill anchors

locate post tension cables with concrete scanningRecently, a general contractor in the Temecula area hired Penhall Technologies to scan 6 locations on the roof of a new casino and hotel expansion. Penhall was able to accurately mark the rebar and post tension cables in the slab so the contractor could safely drill anchors. This specific job needed to utilize every safety precaution due to the locations being only feet away from the 14th floor edge, which we at Penhall Technologies take very seriously. Fall protection harness and lanyard, safety glasses, safety gloves, and hard hat were used. We used the GSSI Structure Scan Mini to scan all targets in the slab. Penhall Technologies was able to exceed the expectations of the client by not only locating all re-bar and post tension cables, but marking them out on the surface in real time using red and black keel. The project was completed in a safe and non-destructive manner. Penhall Technologies of the San Diego, Ca area has the capability and the man power to meet your needs in a timely manner, ultimately ensuring your projects get finished safely and on time.

Keeping the job site safe with concrete scanning

job site safety with concrete scanning
We were called out to a jobsite in San Diego, CA to scan a concrete floor for potential hazards. Penhall always puts safety as a first priority before starting any scanning project and arrived prior to scanning for a safety site assessment and job walk. For this project we were asked to locate a fan coil for a client and after a thorough job walk we used our ground penetrating radar to scan a 4′ x 4′ area. In addition to locating the fan coil Penhall was tasked with locating additional metallic piping. This additional portion of the project necessitated scanning an area measuring 2′ x 15′.

Locating rebar and existing conduit within a concrete wall

Concrete scanning to find conduit
Many times, Penhall gets called to scan before drilling is to take place. In this particular job in San Diego, CA, we were asked to scan a concrete wall in preparation for a 10″ core drill. The client’s request was for us to locate conduit that may be existing in the wall. We were able to find the conduit and complete the work in a timely manner.

Ground penetrating radar used to locate existing conduit in concrete slab on grade

Locating conduit and utilites through concrete scanning
For this project in the San Diego area, we scanned a concrete slab on grade to locate existing conduit as well as post tension cables. This was in preparation for trench that would eventually be cut at a measurement of 24′ long x 1″ wide x4-6″ thick.

We mark all findings, including rebar, post tension cables, and utilities

GPR scanning to find rebar, post tension cables, and utilities
Penhall was called out to scan a structure in San Diego, CA. The scan request was to locate rebar, post tension cables, and utilities in the concrete slab. Before scanning we examined the job site thoroughly for any external hazards and exposed confirmations of live conduits including duct boxes. The GPR scanning was conducted on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors of the structure. The four floors consisted of concrete slabs that were 9″ thick.

Locate suspected conduit, post tension cables, and other reinforcement to ensure safety when drilling

locate reinforcements and conduit in post tension slabAt an ongoing project at a known hotel and casino in Temecula California, a mechanical company requested multiple scans, of a post tension slab, for locating reinforcement and conduit. The company needed to enlarge openings, create openings and drill core holes into the new slab. Ten areas were scanned using a GSSI Mini XT and a Hilti PS1000. Rebar, suspected tension cable and suspected conduit were found. No live electric scan was performed because there was no live electric in the new slab. A washable marker was used for mark out in this case so that the markings were easily washed off after the work was done. The client was happy with the performance of the work.
