PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

We were contracted out by one of our key clients Black & McDonald to perform the cutting and coring work for this community housing project run by Turner Construction on behalf of the City of Toronto.  The 12 story apartment building was completely gutted and our team was one of the first groups in the building which enabled us to get the majority of scanning and coring done without issue.  It was a substantial project with over 2600 holes to be cored and approximately 600 feet of trenching.

  • Each floor had over 215 cores for new plumbing and electrical work.
  • GPR scanning was used to detect all structural steel to coordinate each core location.
  • Trenching work was in P1 parking level which took careful planning and coordination for materials and safety working around other trades.
  • The jobsite was on a busy downtown intersection and required precise coordination of supplies and concrete removals from the basement since no disposal bins were used on site due to space restrictions.
  • Project was started in February 2019 and completed in November 2019.
  • Each day we had up to 2 coring crews and a 3 man trenching crew for the basement work.

Through this process, GRAFF demonstrated their expertise and professionalism by ensuring the prompt availability of qualified personnel and attentiveness to the requirements of this project.

“Being as the 389 Church Street Project was a retrofit of an existing structure, scanning & coring requirements we’re extensive. With approximately 3000 penetrations ranging in size and an abundance of embedded rebar within the structural slab, conditions became challenging as we were mandated to avoid/minimize impact to structural integrity of the floor. Through this process, GRAFF demonstrated their expertise and professionalism by ensuring the prompt availability of qualified personnel and attentiveness to the requirements of this project. I would highly recommend Ian and the GRAFF team to others within my organization as well as continue to use them in the future.” – Justin Biordi, Black and McDonald
