Penhall locates private utilities that 811 will not cover

locate private utilities 811 won't locateA general contracting company sought Penhall for some help in locating buried utilities in Columbia.  811 had previously marked utilities but stopped when the utilities reach private property.  Penhall Technologies came to the location to pick up where 811 left off to locate and mark all private utility lines.

Locate and mark utilities in storm drain before trenching

Locate and mark utilities in storm drain before trenchingA pipeline company in Columbia asked Penhall to perform scanning to locate any utilities that may be in a storm drain before trenching the area for piping.  Our analyst used GPR and RD to scan approximately 300 linear before trenching began.

Identify all existing utilities to ensure safety when digging

locate utilities on private parking lotAt another location in Columbia, Penhall Technologies identified subsurface lines and cables in an asphalt parking lot in preparation of digging. Our GPR analyst was able to locate and mark all utilities and determine the approximate depth of the lines.

Identify any existing utilities before boring holes to install a new structure

GPR scan to locate utilities undergroundRecently, a maintenance, engineering, and construction company hired Penhall Technologies to scan the rail yard of a large industrial plant in Lugoff, SC for underground utilities. The goal is the addition of the rail yard staging area to offload shipped commodities to the plant. The construction company needed to bore large holes into the ground to build the foundation of the new structure. Before doing so, they needed to know what utilities were in the ground. To keep cost down and the project on time they turned to Penhall Technologies to conduct an expert Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey to accurately locate and identify any buried utilities. We used the Sir 4000 with a 400 MHz antenna to scan the area in an established grid pattern and followed up by performing sweeps with our radio detection device (RD 7100 DL), which will pick up any live power or communication lines. Penhall Technologies was able to exceed the expectations of the client by not only locating the utilities, but marking them out on the surface in real time using spray paint and providing the customer with a detailed report of our findings.
