gpr used to locate utilities before trenching for electrical installationAn electrical company asked Penhall to assist in their project by locating utilities in a 10′ W x 50′ L area in preparation for trenching for some electrical rerouting.  Our analyst used ground penetrating radar to locate and mark any utilities to avoid damaging or cutting any existing lines when digging.

utility locating in richmond vaPenhall Technologies completed a project at the Strawberry Hill Pump Station in Richmond, Virginia. A customer needed to locate utilities around an existing vault prior to digging a trench to install a new water pipe. A 400MHz GPR antenna was used to locate utilities to a depth of 7’ around the vault location. There were known and unknown utilities in the area that the customer wanted to confirm and locate. Ground penetrating radar is the preferred method for slab on grade projects. GPR only requires access to one side of the concrete. GPR scanning is quick and reliable with results in real time with no processing time. To check for live conduits, a utility wand was used to sweep each area for power and communication lines.

Ground Penetrating Radar used to locate an underground duct bank around a building

gpr used to locate underground duct bank, Richmond VAPenhall Technologies was asked to locate a known duct bank around a building in Glen Allen, VA. A GSSI SIR 4000 with a 400 MHz antenna was use to scan the area, which was approximately 50ft X 50ft. Ground penetrating radar was able to show each edge of the duct bank to give an approximate width as well as the path it was going. Our GPR Analyst was able to provide quick and reliable results allow for the electrical project being pursued to move forward on time.
