Scan concrete columns and floors to locate post tension cables and rebar
Penhall Technologies completed a concrete scanning project in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. We used 2 different antennas, a 2600MHz Mini XT unit and a 2Ghz palm antenna, to complete the work. The project consisted of scanning concrete columns and floors to locate post tension cables and rebar. The customer was drilling anchor holes into the columns and floors. Penhall Technologies used ground penetrating radar to scan each area as directed by the customer. Ground penetrating radar can locate pt cables, reinforcing steel and conduits in concrete. The results were marked on the surface in real time and allowed the customer to continue without costly construction delays. GPR does not require the area to be closed off during scanning, as it poses no health hazards to workers. Locate conduits in concrete slab before sawcutting
Penhall Technologies completed a project at the Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise, Florida. The contractor was remodeling an existing space for a new tenant. As part of the remodel, the contractor needed to saw cut multiple areas for new plumbing and electrical lines. Penhall Technologies scanned three areas using ground penetrating radar. The 2600MHz ground penetrating radar is capable of locating conduits in and below the concrete slab. It can also determine the approximate thickness of the slab along with the spacing of the reinforcing steel. A utility wand was used to check the areas for live electrical conduits. GPR delivers no radiation which makes it safe to complete during normal business hours. The results are also delivered in real time with no processing time needed.
GPR and Radio Detection used to locate electrical conduit in concrete slab
Penhall Technologies Florida office completed GPR scanning of a mall location in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The contractor was concerned about damaging electrical conduit in the concrete. Our GPR Analyst was able to scan the 1’ x 11’ trench using 2600MHz ground penetrating radar partnered with a radio detection utility wand. During the scanning, Penhall noted 2 areas of concern which contained an empty conduit and a low voltage security line. By locating the conduits, the contractor can instruct the saw cutting operator how to safely cut the concrete slab without damaging the utilities.
Locate tension cables and conduit to ensure safety when core drilling
A hotel in Boca Raton, Florida was being remodeled and required the use of ground penetrating radar to locate post tension cables and conduits in an 8” thick concrete slab. Penhall Technologies was able to scan each location using a 2600MHz GPR antenna manufactured by GSSI. By using GPR, the location of the tension cables and conduits can be marked on the surface allowing the contractor to drill without damaging any cables or conduits embedded in the slab. Concrete scanning helps to keep workers safe and avoid costly repairs to the structure. A typical scan area is 2’ x 2’ and scanned using a grid system to ensure complete coverage of the areas. GPR releases no radiation and is the preferred method of concrete scanning in commercial settings. Ground penetrating radar can also locate rebar in floors and walls and private utility locating.
Avoid damage to post tension cables and conduit by scanning before cutting or core drilling
A local general contractor hired Penhall Technologies to scan a concrete slab in multiple locations prior to drilling. The contractor was concerned about damaging pt cables and conduits while installing new electrical and plumbing lines. By using ground penetrating radar to scan the concrete slab, the analyst was able to identify where the post tension cables and conduits were located in each scan area. By marking the results on the surface, it allowed the contractor to make adjustments in each location to miss the pt cables and conduits. Concrete scanning can also locate reinforcing steel (rebar) in floors and walls along with determining voids in and below the concrete.
Ground penetrating radar used to locate tension cables, rebar, and conduit before moving plumbing lines and drains for a bathroom remodel
Penhall Technologies completed concrete scanning at a condominium building in Pompano Beach, FL. A condo unit bathroom was being renovated and the contractor needed to move several drain and plumbing lines. Ground penetrating radar was used to scan 3 locations using a Mini XT 2600MHz GPR antenna. Ground penetrating radar was able to locate the post tension cables, rebar and conduits at each location. The anomalies are marked on the surface with approved markings and discussed with the contractor. GPR is a safe alternative to x-ray and does not release any radiation and is over 95% effective. Results are displayed in real time with no processing time needed. Only one side of the concrete is needed to complete the GPR scanning.
PENHALL TECHNOLOGIES HELPS PALM BEACH INTL AIRPORT LOCATE LIVE WIRES TO ENSURE SAFETY BEFORE TRENCHING
Utility locating was completed at the Palm Beach International Airport near the baggage claim area. A large contracting company was trenching to install a new electric line to power a kiosk. The airport was concerned about live electrical conduits near the trench. Penhall Technologies was able to scan the trench area and locate 2 electrical conduits running on an angle through the area allowing the contractor to safely trench and install the new wires.
Avoid hitting post tension cables before drilling into a post tension slab
Penhall Technologies scanned a condo unit to locate post tension cables at multiple locations prior to drilling into the ceiling. The building engineer was concerned that the pt cables would be damaged during renovation. The analyst was able to scan and mark out the location of the cables using ground penetrating radar. During the concrete scanning, the analyst also noted several conduits in the concrete slab. By marking out all the hazards, the customer could drill without damaging any post tension cables and incurring repair costs.
