PROJECT
Siemens Energy Foundation Demolition
At the Siemens Energy facility, Penhall Company partnered with AME to complete a complex industrial demolition project involving the removal of large underground concrete foundations and an overlying topping slab. The work required precision cutting, heavy rigging coordination, and disciplined safety planning to support ongoing site operations.
PENHALL'S ROLE & EXPERTISE
Penhall was responsible for the controlled demolition and removal of multiple large underground concrete foundations using advanced wire sawing techniques. Key elements of Penhall’s scope included:
Precision wire sawing to segment foundations into large, manageable concrete blocks
Coordinated rigging and crane-assisted removal of heavy concrete sections
Processing and load-out of concrete for off-site disposal
Detailed sequencing to safely manage cutting, lifting, and removal operations
LOGISTICS & PROJECT EXECUTION
The project presented several challenges related to scale, weight, and coordination. Penhall addressed these challenges through careful planning and execution, including:
Managing the removal of concrete sections weighing tens of thousands of pounds
Coordinating wire sawing and rigging with a 100-ton overhead crane
Operating within an active industrial facility with strict safety requirements
Maintaining constant communication between cutting, rigging, and equipment crews
Safety remained a top priority throughout the project and was reinforced through engineered lift plans, daily pre-task planning, and strict adherence to site safety protocols.
RESULTS & IMPACT
Despite the complexity of the work, Penhall delivered successful results for the client:
Completed the project ahead of schedule and within budget
Executed all work safely with no incidents
Supported Siemens Energy’s ongoing operations and facility improvements
Demonstrated Penhall’s expertise in large-scale industrial foundation demolition
