Lawrence Lake Spillway

Lawrence Lake is a manmade lake created in 1969. It covers about 160 acres and draws water from Clear Branch and Pinnacle Creek. Penhall Company was hired to wall saw roughly 30’x 12’ x 8” to 20” thick concrete sections of Lawrence Lake’s spillway.

This project posed several challenges, from the difficult access to working on the spillway safely. It proved difficult to move heavy equipment to the work location as the spillway is at an angle of about 30 degrees. We installed fall restraints for our crew as a safety measure when working. One major concern was that once we cut the spillway the entire structure could slide. The sections above our cut limits were anchored up to the dam above to prevent this from happening, and managed to complete all work efficiently and safely. 

Crews employed both a wall saw and hydraulic hand saw to finish the project.
